

STATEMENT ON JUSTICE REBECCA GRASSL BRADLEY BY THE HON. MARIA S. LAZAR

Judge Maria Lazar started her career as a law clerk in the late 1980’s. Since then, she has been devoted to the pursuit of justice and fairness for all. As Americans, we all deserve the right to receive a fair trial.
Maria Lazar knows, believes, and lives this every day. As an Assistant Attorney General for the Wisconsin Department of Justice, and later as a judge for Branch 7 of the Waukesha County Circuit Court, she gained deep experience in the law and the pursuit of justice. Now serving on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, District II, Judge Lazar continues to uphold the principle that justice is sometimes difficult, but always the most important thing pursued.
Formerly a Wisconsin Assistant Attorney General, in the Special Litigation and Appeals Unit. As an AAG, Lazar was lead counsel in several complex, civil litigation matters for the State, including the initial state court Act 10/collective bargaining case, the Capitol Access case, the federal redistricting matter, and the First Amendment challenge to the permitting system at the State Capitol, among others. Lazar has presented at several Judicial Education Seminars and has presented to bar associations and other legal entities on litigation, redistricting, contracting principles, bankruptcy, and consumer credit and debt collection.
She was President of the Milwaukee Bar Association (2008) and has served on its Board of Directors. Lazar served two terms on the State of Wisconsin’s Board of Governors (1996-2000). Judge Lazar earned her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Mount Mary College and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
